DO I REMEMBER? I CAN’T FORGET! “Penny, there’s something I need to tell you… Do you remember my daughter from before we were married, Chloe?” My husband was beating around the bush, which made me uneasy. “Hmm… Do I remember? I couldn’t possibly forget! Why?” I sat down, bracing myself for trouble. “I’m not sure how to say this… Chloe is begging us to take in her daughter—my granddaughter…” he fumbled. “And why would I do that, Alex? What about Chloe’s husband? Did he vanish into thin air?” I was intrigued, curiosity piqued. “Chloe doesn’t have long left, there’s no husband. Her mother remarried and moved to America years ago—they’re not on speaking terms, and there’s no other family. So she’s asking…” Alex was embarrassed, unable to meet my gaze. “So? What have you decided? What will you do?” I already knew my answer. “I’m asking you, Penny. Whatever you decide, we’ll do,” Alex finally looked at me, searching for guidance. “How convenient—your indiscretions, my responsibility! You made mistakes in your youth and now I’m supposed to take on someone else’s child?” “Penny, we’re a family. We make decisions together,” Alex tried to reason. “But you didn’t ask my opinion when you had your little fling, did you?” Tears welled up; I stormed off to another room… And so began the story that I simply can’t forget, about the daughter of my husband’s old love, and how we became a family again—secrets, betrayals, and all.
DO I REMEMBER? HOW COULD I FORGET! Polly, bit of a situation here Long story short, do you remember my

Winter Had Draped Andrew’s Garden in a Soft Blanket of Snow, Yet His Loyal German Shepherd, Duke, Was Acting Strangely Instead of curling up in the spacious kennel Andrew had lovingly built for him last summer, Duke stubbornly insisted on sleeping outside, right in the snow. Watching from the window, Andrew felt a tightening in his chest—Duke had never acted like this before. Each morning, as he headed out to him, Andrew noticed how tense Duke seemed. The moment he approached the kennel, Duke would position himself between Andrew and the entrance, growling softly and fixing him with a pleading look, as if to say, “Please, don’t go in there.” This behaviour, so out of character after years of friendship, left Andrew wondering—what was his best mate hiding? Determined to get to the bottom of this, Andrew came up with a plan—he lured Duke into the kitchen with a tempting piece of steak. While the dog, locked inside, barked desperately at the window, Andrew made his way over to the kennel and knelt down to peer inside. His heart stopped as his eyes adjusted to the darkness and he saw something that chilled him to the bone… …Inside, nestled in a blanket, was a tiny kitten—scruffy, freezing, and barely breathing. Its eyes were just about open, its small body trembling from the cold. Duke had found it somewhere and, instead of chasing it away or leaving it out in the cold, had taken it under his protection. He slept outside so he wouldn’t frighten it, guarding the entrance as if the kennel held precious treasure. Andrew held his breath as he gently scooped the little creature up into his arms. Instantly, Duke bolted to his side and pressed against his shoulder—not growling, but anxious, ready to help. “You’re a good dog, Duke…” Andrew whispered, cradling the kitten. “Better than most people.” From that day on, the garden was home not just to two friends, but three. And the kennel, built with love, had found new purpose—a little shelter for rescued souls.
Winter had spread a glistening white blanket over Edwards garden, transforming every hedge and rosebush
