I Couldn’t Resist… I Betrayed My Wife…

I couldnt resist I betrayed my wife
And yet, Id never imagined it would happen. But life, with its suffocating routine, heavy silences, and stale habits, had dug a chasm between us.

She was always at home, locked into her role as a mother and homemaker. Our conversations had shrunk to mundane exchangesbills, groceries, the kids school No more laughter, no more burning glances, no more strong emotions.

Then *she* walked in.

A new colleague at the office. Lets call her Emily. Young, charming, carefree. Her bright laugh rang through the office like a melody, and her eyes sparkled with a light I hadnt seen in years. Unlike my wife, Emily had no responsibilities, no obligations. She lived freely, with this intoxicating lightness that pulled me in.

At first, it was nothing. Casual chats, a few jokes here and there. Then, day by day, I found myself looking forward to those moments with her.

Thats when the lies started.

I told my wife storieslate meetings, urgent paperwork, a mate in trouble who needed help. She never questioned it. She just got used to my absence.

For a month, I wooed Emily. Bought her flowers, took her to restaurants I hadnt visited in years. We strolled under the golden lights of London, walking along the Thames, our hands brushing now and then by chance.

Then one night, near Tower Bridge, she gave me a mischievous smile and whispered,

Want to come back to mine?

And I said yes.

That night was a storm of passion, desire, and forgetting.

But when I stepped through my front door at dawn, a crushing weight hit me.

My wife was awake.

Sitting in the dim lounge, legs curled under her, waiting.

Our eyes met, and I knew*she knew*.

Women always know.

She didnt say a word. No shouting, no blaming. Just this awful silence. Then she stood up and walked to the kitchen.

I locked myself in the bathroom. Turned the shower on and let the water pour over me, as if it could wash away the guilt. But some stains never fade.

When I walked into the kitchen, she was making tea.

Im tired, was all she said. Im going to bed.

Later, when I stepped into our room, I found her asleep, still dressed. On the nightstand beside her was our photo album.

I flipped it open.

And there she was.

Not the exhausted, distant woman of the last few years. No. I saw the one Id fallen for at first sight. Smiling, radiant with youth and happiness. Beside her, there was a manme. Happy, proud, in love.

And it hit me like lightning*how could I have forgotten?*

I didnt sleep that night. Just lay there, staring at the ceiling, drowning in regret. Then another thought came: *What if I won her back?*

Early the next morning, while she still slept, I called my mum and asked if she could take the kids for the weekend. She didnt hesitate.

Then I went to the kitchen and made breakfast.

When I carried the tray to bed, she just stared at me, confused.

What are you doing?

I want to see you smile.

She didnt answer. But in her eyes, I thought I saw a flicker.

That day, I sent her to the spa. When she came home, she was glowing. That evening, we went to our favourite restaurantthe one where wed had our first date.

The next day, I took her to the theatre. Like we used to. Like when we were inseparable.

As for Emily I never answered her. No texts, no calls.

Id made a mistake. A terrible one.

But that night, watching my wife laugh again, I realisedmaybe it wasnt too late to start over.
