Im 38 years old and for the last two years, Ive been living with a man whos five years older than me. His names George. He was married before, has two children, and an unemployed ex-wife who seems to think he has a money tree out backor at least, thats what her nightly requests suggest.
Ive never been married before and dont have any kids. Some might say I dont really grasp the wonders of children and family life, but actually, I do! And I certainly recognise that its not exactly normal to live with one woman as your wife and spend half your life dashing off to see the other.
Georges ex-wife, Margaret, seems determined to lure him back into her web. Without fail, she rings him up daily with some minor catastrophecat stuck in the loft, the car wont start, her computers got a virus again. George dutifully drives across town, straight after work, and returns only when its practically midnight. Even at Christmas, just when were about to have a nice, peaceful holiday for two, the phone rings, and off he goes to save the day for her again.
The thing is, Margarets got a sizeable family and plenty of mates, all living within spitting distance. So why, oh why, is George always expected to play knight in shining armour? Its obvious reallyshe wants him back.
Honestly, Ive had enough. But what am I supposed to dofile for divorce? Weve talked about it, but those conversations go around in circles and nothing ever changes.
