While Strolling by the Lake, a Young Girl Noticed a Wild Goose Appearing to Seek Help from Passersby.

Dear Diary,

This afternoon I was strolling along the shore of Windermere when I spotted a lone wild goose near the water, its eyes fixed on the passersby as if begging for help. Everyone kept their distance, muttering that the bird might nip at them. I couldn’t stand by and watch, so I moved closer and tried to offer it some crumbs. To my surprise, it turned its beak away, as if inviting me to follow.

With a dash of courage I trailed the goose, and it led me down a narrow path beside the lake. There, among the stones, a tiny gosling was wedged, crying out for its family. The whole brood circled the little one, honking urgently. I gently freed the chick and set it back among its parents, who swam away in a grateful flurry.

The geese didn’t forget my aid. Later that week they returned, waddling up to the cottage garden where I live, and gave me a chorus of grateful honks. From then on, a family of wild geese made their home in my yard. I welcomed their company, feeding them and keeping a careful eye on their safety each day.

As the weeks passed, I came to understand how vital it is to listen to those whose cries are often ignored. My new feathered friends grew into a constant presencecheerful honks greeting me each morning, and a gentle herd escorting me to the gate at dusk. When they ventured off to forage, theyd leave a few goslings in my care, trusting me like I was part of their flock.

Soon the neighbours, who once shied away from the geese, began to stop by just to watch the unlikely friendship between a man and a wild brood. The simple meeting by the lake had altered not only the fate of a helpless gosling but also my own life, filling it with compassion, confidence and a quiet joy.

Every time I walk past Windermere now, the breezy wind seems to whisper a cheerful thank you in my ear.

Lesson learned: a little kindness to those that go unheard can turn the ordinary into something truly extraordinary.
