Ever since I was a young boy, my parents would tell me that no one needed me and that I was utterly useless.
People often say that family is supposed to be your closest support, especially mothers. After all, they carry you for nine months, bring you into the world, spend sleepless nights, and dedicate so much of themselves for the sake of their child.
Perhaps thats true for many, but not in my case. My mother and I have always been worlds apart. We never truly connected. She never encouraged me in anything. Whenever I got excited about some new idea, she would instantly shoot me down with her constant negativity.
In her eyes, I was a foolish, slow-witted child who couldnt do anything and never would. I never understood why she treated me that way. Yet, as soon as she needed somethingshe would immediately turn to me for help. Yes, the same son who, according to her, couldnt manage anything. Thankfully, at least my father loved me and was always supportive.
So, I decided to leave my small hometown and move down to London to find a better life and pursue my own happiness. When my mum found out, she completely lost the plot. She said all sorts of thingsher main aim was clearly to keep hold of her hardworking and obedient son. But I didnt give in to her emotional blackmail and did everything just as I wanted.
Now look at me. I live in London, have a spacious flat of my own, a thriving business, two wonderful children, and a loving wife. My mum always used to tell me Id never achieve anything, but I proved her wrong. If I could do it, then anyone who can block out the doubters and believe in themselves is capable of the same!
