I didnt quite grasp why my daughter was in such a mad dash to marry her boyfriend, whom shed barely known for a lunar cycle. Honestly, I half wondered if there was a baby on the horizonwhat else could prompt such haste? But my daughter swore up and down there were no little feet expected. According to her, they were simply drowning in love and couldnt possibly exist apart. Well, at the time, I figured, who am I to stand in the way of young, hopeless romantics? Not everyone strikes lucky in matters of the heart.
So, it was all systems go for the weddingher in-laws chipped in some pounds, and we matched them. St George under his dragon hadnt seen such a festive mood. At first, I assumed she simply disapproved of her sons pick and honestly, I was quite tempted to let her stew. Still, something niggled at me, so eventually, I wandered over. When I quietly asked her what was wrong, she bit her tongue, then finally raised her head and spilled it out with a tearful crescendo.
This wedding shouldn’t have gone ahead. My son is going to make your daughter miserable. He doesnt love her. Not one bit. Hes only marrying her out of spite.
