One morning, Anna’s husband left for work and never came back. His wife called everywhere, only to discover he was simply worn out by family life.

Helen met her husband at a wedding of mutual friends in London. They instantly fell for each other and spent the whole evening together, talking, laughing, and dancing. Their relationship blossomed quickly, and just a few months after their meeting, they tied the knot and moved in together.

Not long after, Helen discovered she was expecting. By chance, she never managed to get a scan during her pregnancysomething always cropped up. She fell ill, couldn’t get time off work, or another obstacle would pop up.

Her pregnancy was challengingHelen was fatigued, constantly nauseous, and her back gave her no peace. The swelling of her belly left her struggling to walk much, so she spent most days lying down. During the final month before delivery, she seldom left the flat. Her husband loved her dearly and looked after her, but his job kept him away most of the time.

Helen went into labour ahead of schedule. Doctors didnt leave her side as the babies arrived one after anothertwo girls and a boy. The shock was immense. When her husband entered the ward, he was utterly gobsmacked. In a single moment, hed become a father to three.

While Helen recovered in hospital, her husband bought cots for the babies. Their homea modest one-bedroom flatwas cramped. There was nowhere else to go. Everyday life began in earnest: sleepless nights, childhood illnesses, endless worry. Her husband dreamed that things would return to how they once werecarefree happiness, romantic evenings, whispered chats into the night. But none of that happened.

Helen could hardly keep up with her little ones, which meant she had no time left for her husband. Eventually, he snapped. One day, he left for work and never came back.

Helen called everywherethe hospital, the police, friends. No trace. It turned out he couldnt handle it anymore and ran away from his wife and children.

That was the moment Helen realised she had to find strength within herself. The responsibility was wholly hers now. Her mother moved in and helped care for the children. Together, they raised the triplets, though it wasnt easy. Helen supported them with Child Benefit and her mothers pension.

A new shopping centre opened nearby, and Helen managed to get a job there. She proved reliable and hardworking, so despite her situation with three children, she was hired.

Life grew easier from that point. Later on, Helen could afford to hire a nanny, bringing some relief to her mother. A few years down the track, Helen received a promotion. She changed considerablybecame a confident, well-groomed woman. Thats just how her ex-husband saw her when he returned to visit his parents in town.

He came to see his children and asked Helen to forgive him for the past. He hoped she would give him another chance. Helen looked at him and realised one thingshe would never go back to this man. Her feelings for him were long dead. She said so. When he left, Helen felt a weight lift from her shoulders. At last, shed put the past behind her. And her future was still ahead.
