Ive been in a relationship with my boyfriend for two years, and recently he proposed to me. Of course I said yes. But something has been bothering mehe doesnt seem eager for us to move in together.
He currently lives in his parents three-bedroom flat, and Im staying in student halls. I believe its important for us to live together before getting married, so we can get used to each other and test our compatibility. I explained this to my fiancé, but he acted as though he didnt understand what I was getting at. Then, as luck would have it, his parents had to go away for a fortnight, giving us the opportunity to live together for a while.
I wanted to make a good impression. I cooked, cleaned, and kept everything neat and tidy. Every day I surprised my fiancé with homemade treats and tried my best to please him.
But there was one sticking point. I asked him to vacuum, and he replied that it wasnt a mans job. He said in his family, the man provides financially and doesnt help out with chores. I kept quiet, hoping that things would change once we started living together properly.
Before his parents returned, I made sure the flat was spotless. I wanted to show them I could be a responsible partner. I baked a cake, prepared dinner, and went home feeling proud.
The next day, Sebastian told me his mum wasnt impressed. Apparently, I didnt do a good job as a hostess. I was taken abackwhen I first visited, the place was far messier. Why did she speak badly of me? She didnt even like the food I made for them, said it didnt suit her taste. I felt so hurt.
I think she simply doesnt want her son to move out and she doesnt like me because of that. Maybe shed prefer someone else for him. Why do I think this? Because after his parents came home, Sebastian became distant, and now we rarely see each other or talk. I doubt therell be a wedding after all.
Whats your opinion?
