What About the Apartment? You Promised Me! You’re Ruining My Life!

Oh, mate, let me tell you what happened with our family recently. My husband and I were absolutely thrilled when we found out our son was getting married. So, before the big day, we quietly let him know we wanted to gift him a flatjust surprise him with it. Jack was over the moon when he heard about it, and word spread to his mates pretty quickly too. Everything was buzzing with wedding prep, but then, suddenly, disaster struck.

Our daughter, Alice, ended up in hospital straight from work. She took ill out of nowhere, and we rushed over straight away. The tests revealed she had a tumour, so she needed immediate surgery. Obviously, we had to find a lot of moneyand fast. Thankfully, we caught it just in time.

Buying a flat for Jack in the midst of all this was completely off the table. We scrambled to gather what was needed for her treatment. Luckily, our friends and family really pulled together; they couldn’t just stand by while we were going through such a tough time. Everyone chipped in whatever they could. Some even gave us money, telling us not to worry about paying them back. With all of that help, we managed to get the funds for her operation.

But then, out of nowhere, Jack floored us with his reaction.

“What about my flat? You promised it to me! You’re ruining my life.”

Honestly, I nearly fainted when he said that. How could he be so self-centred? Alice is his sisterthey grew up together! I just I couldn’t believe he would even compare his wedding and her surgery like that. I was lost for words. But Jack wouldn’t let up.

“Why does she get everything and I get nothing?”

I just snapped. I shouted at him that I never wanted to see him again. So, he packed his stuff and moved in with his fiancée. We didn’t speak for a fortnight.

During that time, Alice had her operation. Thankfully, it all went well, and a few weeks later, she was discharged. We never said a word to her about Jack’s attitudeno point upsetting her. It’s a shame, really. Jack didn’t call once. Not even to ask how his sister was getting on. Clearly, having a place to live mattered more to him than his family ties. Its tough, but thats where things stand.
