Eternally grateful for his kindness
Nowadays, many claim that kindness is a relic of the past, and people have become indifferent, each looking out only for themselves.
I used to think that way. Time after time, I faced betrayal, deception, and envy. I saw how those closest to you turn away when you’re in trouble, and how fair-weather friends vanish once you’re no longer of use to them.
But life has a way of surprising you. Sometimes, it sends someone your way who has no obligation to help, yet they do. It makes you realize: all is not lost.
When everything falls apart…
Just a few months ago, my life seemed to be in a downhill spiral.
I had an office job, felt secure about the future, and was planning ahead. Though money was always tight, I was holding it together. After all, it was just me. No husband, no support, just me and my child.
But suddenly, everything collapsed. I was let go.
The reason? Envy. Gossip. The fake smiles of colleagues who were weaving schemes behind my back. The most painful part was being dismissed despite being the top performer in my role.
I found myself jobless. In our small town, every job opening is like gold dust.
Initially, I held on to hope. I went around to different companies, made calls, sent out resumes. I was ready to accept any job. Be it cleaning or anything else—just so my child wouldn’t go hungry.
But as days passed, no job materialized.
Then, the grim realization hit me: soon, the last of my money would run out. The benefits would end. And then what?
An unexpected helping hand
When I was nearly in despair, the phone rang.
It was my former boss.
He said there was a courier position opening in his company. The pay would be lower than my previous job, but he would try to give me a raise in three months.
I couldn’t hold back my tears.
I cried not only from relief, not solely from the joy of finally being able to provide for my child again. I cried because I realized—there are still kind-hearted people in the world.
This man was never my friend. Our relationship was always purely professional. He wasn’t obliged to help me. But he remembered me.
He remembered that I was alone. That I had no one to rely on. He remembered how crucial this job was to me.
And he simply reached out and offered help.
Kindness that isn’t forgotten
I will be grateful to him all my life.
And not just for the job itself.
But for showing me that the world isn’t all bad. That there are people who don’t turn a blind eye to others’ suffering.
