He Only Wanted to Adopt His Ex-Wife’s Son, But Discovered It’s His Biological Child…

When Emily left Simon, it felt like his heart had been ripped right out of his chest. Six years together, four of them living under the same roof in their little terraced house in Manchester. He’d loved her with everything he had—loyal, aching love. But she chose someone else. Someone with more money. Some bloke who promised her a new-build in Surrey, a life without scraping by, no more counting pennies at the Tesco till. And Simon was left alone. Broken.

He threw himself into work, barely going home except to feed his tabby, Mr. Whiskers. His mates drifted away, his hobbies too. But after a couple of years, he got promoted to manager, then started his own small business. Only then did the pain start to fade. He had time for life again, for people. For himself.

Then one day, he heard the awful news: Emily was dead. Her husband—that so-called “rich” one—had been beating her, and during one of their rows, she fell. Wrong place, wrong time. Just like that. Gone. And she left behind a little boy, about to be sent to foster care. Simon didn’t think twice—he went to see him.

The boy sat there, curled up against the wall, crying. Small, helpless, shattered. Like his whole world had ended. Simon couldn’t just walk away. He started visiting every day—bringing toys, sweets, just sitting with him. The boy warmed to him slowly, but he did. And that’s when Simon made up his mind: he’d adopt him. He still loved Emily, in a way. How could he leave her son alone in this world?

A couple of weeks later, the boy moved in with him. And within a year, Simon couldn’t imagine life without him. He was his son in every way that mattered—cheeky, bright, kind-hearted. They went on walks, took trips to Brighton, rode the dodgems at the fair. Then, at his mate’s birthday party, someone said:
“Mate, you sure he’s not actually yours? Kid’s the spitting image of you.”

Simon laughed it off:
“Nah, Emily would’ve said.”
“What if she didn’t even know?”

That thought gnawed at him. He got a DNA test. And the result—positive. The boy *was* his. His own flesh and blood.

Simon didn’t know what to feel—joy, grief, guilt. He never knew he had a child. And Emily… maybe she didn’t either. Or maybe she just never told him.

Now he understood why the boy had felt so familiar from the start. Why he’d clung to *him*. He hadn’t just saved some stranger’s kid from being alone. He’d brought his *own* son home. And though the past couldn’t be undone, he had a chance to make things right—for his boy, for Emily’s memory, for himself.
