I Asked My Son to Move Out, and He Trashed the Apartment Meant for His Sister

**Diary Entry – 12th June**

I asked my son to move out, and he destroyed the flat I meant to give to his sister.

My son William betrayed me and his younger sister in the worst way possible. His cruelty cut deeper than any blade, shattering a lifetime of trust. This is a story of love, broken promises, and a family torn apart.

My name is Margaret Whitmore. I’m 62 years old, living in a quiet town in the countryside. I raised two children—William and Emily. Recently, I told William it was time to leave the flat he and his family had been living in so Emily could move in. But when we stepped inside, we were met with devastation. He and his wife Charlotte hadn’t just left—they’d wrecked the place. Ripped off the wallpaper, tore up the flooring, stripped the light fixtures, even took the sink and toilet. This wasn’t just spite; I’m certain Charlotte pushed him to do it.

A decade ago, when William married Charlotte, I inherited a two-bedroom flat from my late aunt. They were expecting their first child, so I let them stay there, telling them it wasn’t theirs forever—just temporary until they saved for their own place. The flat was old and run-down, but with help from Charlotte’s parents, they renovated it: new windows, wiring, plumbing, all of it. I was pleased they made it comfortable, but I never let them forget—it wasn’t theirs.

Years passed. They had two kids, settled into the local schools, and life became routine. They never saved for a mortgage, never moved forward. Meanwhile, my daughter Emily, now 24, graduated university, started working, and wanted her own space. I decided it was time to let her have the flat.

When I told William, his face paled. *”You’re kicking us out?”* he spat. Charlotte said nothing, but her glare spoke volumes. *”You knew this day would come,”* I said firmly. *”You’ve had years to sort yourselves out. Rent elsewhere or stay with Charlotte’s parents.”* I gave them a month to leave, but what followed was chaos. Daily arguments, William shouting that I was ruining their lives, Charlotte calling me unfair. I stood my ground, but their hatred cut deep.

Finally, they left. Emily and I arrived to clean up before her move—but we walked into a war zone. Bare walls, gaping holes where lights once hung, even the fittings gone. My hands shook as I called William. *”How could you do this to us?”* His reply was cold. *”Why should Emily get a place we put into? We spent our own money, our time—why should she benefit?”*

His words crushed me. Emily, in tears beside me, has no savings for repairs—and my pension barely covers my own bills. The flat’s unliveable, while William and Charlotte revel in our despair. I gave them shelter, support—and they repaid me with wreckage. It’s not just revenge—it’s a betrayal I’ll never forget. My daughter’s left homeless, and I’ve lost all faith in my own son.

Where did I go wrong? That’s the question that haunts me now. A mother’s love shouldn’t end like this.
