Dream Warning: The Story That Changed Everything

**A Warning from a Dream: The Story That Changed Everything**

Emily was busy making pickles when the doorbell rang unexpectedly. Her husband, James, wasn’t home—he’d gone away on business and taken the keys with him. The only other person in the house was their daughter, Sophie. *Who on earth could that be?* she muttered, wiping her hands as she headed for the door.

On the doorstep stood a boy, about ten years old. A complete stranger. Neatly dressed, with a backpack over his shoulders, his eyes were oddly serious—far too old for his age.

“Good afternoon,” he said politely. “I need to speak to your husband. Is he home?”

Emily blinked. “Hello. No, he’s not here right now… Can I help?”

“No. It has to be him. It’s important.”

Her stomach twisted. She didn’t even know what to say.

“I’ll come back later. What time is he usually home?”

“He’s in and out… Who *are* you? What’s this about?”

“Nothing yet. But it might be. Goodbye.”

Emily watched him go, baffled. What on earth did this child want with her husband? And how did he even know him? She couldn’t shake the weird feeling all day. That evening, when James finally got home, she spilled it all.

“A boy came by today. About ten. Said he urgently needed to talk to you. Wouldn’t say anything else.”

“What rubbish? I don’t know anyone like that. Maybe he got the wrong house?”

“No, he said your name. Insisted it had to be you.”

James shrugged and went for a shower. Meanwhile, Emily’s mind raced. Who *was* this boy? Could he be… James’s son? Some secret love child? He *had* had other women before her. A name flashed into her head—Charlotte. Years ago, James had nearly married her. What if she’d been pregnant and never told him?

The next day, she started probing.

“James… remember that woman you almost married? Charlotte, was it?”

“Why’s that matter now? Ancient history.”

“Just curious. You know about *my* exes, but I hardly know yours.”

She immediately scoured social media for Charlotte—but with no last name, her search got nowhere. Now she just had to wait and see if the boy returned.

A few days later, James announced he had a business trip.

“Just to Manchester. No one else could go, so the boss asked me.”

Emily tensed. James *never* went on work trips anymore. The boy’s words—”something might happen”—echoed in her mind. Her gut was screaming that something was off.

Then, the night before James left, the boy knocked again. She ushered him inside.

“Listen, tell *me* what you wanted to say. I’m his wife. I’ll make sure he hears it. What’s your name?”

“Oliver. See… my mum told me in a dream. She said your husband can’t go. Or he won’t come back.”

Emily went cold. “Oliver, what are you talking about? What mum?”

“My mum died five years ago. But she visits me in dreams. Warns me sometimes. My nan says we’re connected… She loved me a lot. Never knew my dad. Only saw her in pictures. But lately, she’s been appearing more. Gave me your address. Said it had to be *him*…”

Emily’s breath caught.

“Do *you* know who he was to your mum?”

“No. But she said he can’t go. No matter what.”

After Oliver left, panic clawed at her chest. She didn’t believe in ghosts… but this was too real to ignore.

The next day, James left. Emily busied herself to stay calm. Then, after lunch—her phone rang.

“Emily, don’t freak out… I’m fine. But—something weird happened.”

“What?! What *happened*?”

“I was driving. Listening to music. Then—out of nowhere—a woman stepped onto the road. I swerved, hit the barrier… The car in front of me flipped. People died. That should’ve been *me*.”

“Oh my God…”

“I don’t know *who* she was. Just… appeared. Then vanished. If not for her, I’d be gone.”

That evening, James came home shaken.

“You don’t think… that could’ve been *her*? Oliver’s mum?”

“Emily… that’s mad. Just a coincidence.”

“No, James. It *wasn’t*.”

The next day, his face went pale. “I’ve remembered. Five years ago, I walked past a burning house. People were too scared to go in—but I ran inside. Pulled a boy out. His mum… didn’t make it.”

They tracked down Oliver’s nan.

“Yes, he lives here. My grandson. His mum died in that fire. *You* saved him. I’ve been grateful every day… He barely remembers. Just the photos. But she visits his dreams. Never mine.”

“She saved *me*…”

“Charlotte was always… different. D’you want to see?”

The photo was unmistakable. *Her.*

Then Oliver came in.

“Hello. Mum says you’re alive. She’s happy. But… you must never drive that road again. She won’t be able to save you twice.”

“Thank you, Oliver. And thank *her*. Fancy being mates? I’ve got a little girl—no good for fishing. But you and me? We’ll go to matches, anywhere you like. Deal?”

Oliver nodded shyly. Emily cried—grateful for fate… and for the way even a dream can sometimes save a life.
