Ive got to tell you what happened with my husband, the 63yearold, and the young girl who thought she could steal him away and how I turned the tables on them.
Ian and I had been together for almost forty years. In that time we raised three kids, built a cosy house in Surrey, set up a small but solid family business, and bought a decent Ford Focus. We were comfortable, never wanting for anything, and as the kids started their own families we were looking forward to a quiet retirement by the fireplace.
Then everything fell apart.
I started noticing Ian acting oddly hed hide his phone, linger late at work, shave twice a day and even take a shower like a twentyyearold. You dont need to be Sherlock to spot that he had a new flame. And what a flame a nineteenyearold named Pippa, lithe as a birch sapling, with eyes that seemed to be calculating everything. She was barely old enough to be his granddaughter.
I realised straight away that she wasnt after his silver hair, but his bank accounts. Ian, blinded by her youth and sweet talk, thought hed found his second spring. A few months later he announced he was leaving to marry her. Can you imagine? Forty years together, and it all unravels because a girl who called him sweetie and frowned when he sneezed too loudly.
I didnt scream or pull my hair out. I just nodded and said, Alright, silently agreeing. Little did he know what was waiting for him. Id set a trap that would have him crawling at my feet, begging for forgiveness.
They lived the pictureperfect life a wedding, Instagramfilled photos, a honeymoon in Spain. It looked like theyd got everything rolling like a wheel of cheese. But they missed one crucial detail.
Years ago, when the business was just starting and we were buying the house, my brother, a solicitor, advised us to put all assets in the childrens names. On paper, Ian and I owned nothing: no house, no company, no bank accounts. Everything was registered to Sam and Lily. Hed forgotten, and theyd never known.
When the honeymoon fizzled, the questions started coming: Why cant you sell the shop? Wheres the car? You said you had a new Ford! Are we going to live forever in a rented flat? You promised us everything!
When the truth came out, Pippa packed her bags and walked out. No tears, no drama she just vanished, leaving my ex with a shattered life.
Two months later he crawled back to me, gaunt and with dull eyes, weeping, kissing my hands, saying he was blind without me, that I was the only one he wanted to rebuild his world with.
But Im not the sweetheart Nora who waited with dinner. Revenge isnt my style. I looked at him and said, Im sorry, but I wont be with a man whose floorlength dress costs more than forty years of love, children and everything we built together.
I shut the door behind him. Behind me is my own life my real, sturdy life, untouched by his betrayal.
