Weve got two kids, but I feel like we only get love for one of them.
I always sensed that my parents favoured my sister, Emma, more than me. They drove the point home when they gave her and her two little ones a room in their house and told me Id better move out because, With your remoteworking job you can afford your own flat.
When Emma was at university, Mum and Dad practically followed her around like a doting auntie, handling every admin task with the deans office, covering for her when she had lectures, and now theyre looking after her kids. I never got that kind of help, and now theyre kicking me out.
Dad keeps saying that, being a bloke, I should be able to sort myself out, yet he expects Emmas husband whos older than me not to be able to provide for the family.
During the blowup about the move, I stupidly claimed I had just as much right to the flat as Emma and that I deserved a share too. Mum snapped back, calling me a pig for talking about splitting the property, and Emma shouted that I was trying to push her and her kids out.
Legally theres no easy fix Im sure Mum and Dad will rush to draw up a new will and cut me out completely.
Is it really possible for a family to fall apart over a flat? Im still their child, but they treat me like a stranger. Makes you wonder why they bothered having two kids in the first place if Im now just expendable.
