This is just what I did when I stumbled upon two vouchers for a cruise while searching the pockets of my husbands trousers. One of the vouchers had the name of another woman on it.
I first met my husband, Harry, at a bus stop. It so happened that I dropped my keys while pulling out my wallet. It was late and too dark to see, but Harry spotted the glint of my keys on the ground and helped me find them. I thanked him and, as luck would have it, we ended up waiting for the very same bus.
Harry walked me home that night. We started seeing each other soon after, and six months down the line, we tied the knot. Harry used to say hed fallen for me the moment he saw me. Life together was wonderfulthree happy years passed in the blink of an eye. Then Harry began a new job, and I couldnt help but notice he was changing. I tried to keep silent, thinking perhaps I was reading too much into things. Then one day, Harry told me hed be away for a fortnight on a business trip.
Later that evening, while Harry was in the shower, I decided to do some laundry and checked his trouser pockets. Thats when I found two cruise tickets. One of them had a girls name on it. He had betrayed me, shattering both my trust and my love for him.
I was absolutely furious, and I knew I had to get back at him. I had loved him so deeply and trusted him even more. I didnt say a word to Harry. Instead, I rang up my old school friend, Andrew, who Id always had a good rapport with, and asked for his help. Together, Andrew and I went to the very place Harry was planning to take his mistress. We pretended to be lovers ourselves. The moment Harry spotted us, he marched straight over, accusing me of cheating on him! I looked him in the eye and replied:
So you thought you could have your little affair and Id just stand by? I didnt have to look hard to find someone better to take your place!
Just then, the woman standing nearbyNatalie, the one from the cruise voucherlooked completely stunned. Turns out, she didnt even know Harry was a married man. Hed deceived the both of us. Before long, I divorced Harry. I simply couldn’t forgive that kind of betrayal.
Six months later, I married Andrew, and Ive never been happier. As for Natalie, she and Harry went their separate ways tooshe couldnt forgive Harry for never mentioning he already had a wife.
If theres anything Ive learnt from all this, its to trust my gut and never ignore my instincts, no matter how much I want to believe in someone.
