How My Husband Secretly Supported His Mother While I Had Nothing to Dress Our Child In
My husband and I dont exactly live in luxury we do our best with what we have. We both work, but our wages are quite modest. Id even say theyre small. Weve also got a four-year-old daughter. Anyone can understand its very expensive raising a little one these days, and, to be honest, its tough getting by on limited funds.
To make matters worse, my husband decided he had to help his mother with her rent. We barely scrape by as it is, and yet were still sending money to my mother-in-law. Shes in fine health, really, and could easily get herself a part-time job. I would gladly work extra myself, but someone needs to watch our daughter when she gets home from nursery, and my mother-in-laws always making excuses about being unwell whenever Ive asked her to help with childcare.
Then, to add insult to injury, I found out my mother-in-law had gone on holiday and a rather posh one at that. My husband just sprung it on me that, while his mother was away, he would need me to travel all the way to the other side of London to look after her plants. To say I was taken aback is an understatement. Instead of wasting time with her flowers, I could have been out earning us a bit of extra money.
What shocked me even more, though, was how my mother-in-law suddenly seemed to be living the high life. She had expensive handbags, boutique dresses, and who knows what else. I kept wondering where she was getting all this money. My husband acted as though his poor mother couldn’t even pay her own rent, and yet here she was, splashing out. I even started to wonder if shed found herself a well-off gentleman friend who was footing the bill.
One day, I noticed my husband was always carrying around the same heavy bag. While he was in the bathroom, I had a peek inside and saw a bunch of electronics including a laptop I recognised as my friends. The next day at work, my friend told me my husband had been doing some repairs for her. Thats when it all clicked into place so thats where the money was coming from! When I confronted him, asking if he was giving all this extra money to his mother, he admitted that he was.
“So, Im mending socks for myself and our daughter, weve got nothing new to wear, and youre sending your mother off to expensive hotels and buying her boutique clothes?”
These are my earnings. Ill spend them however I see fit.
Suffice to say, I kicked him out with his own money. If he loves his mother so much, let him go live with her. Is that not fair?
