So, the other day I popped over to my aunts place to drop off some papers she needed. Honestly, we only ever see each other at Christmas, but this time it was urgent. She doesnt exactly have the best circumstances, but that’s not really about money its just, you know, the way she lives. I don’t consider myself stingy at all, but I really think a clean and tidy home is just the bare minimum. You can live simply and still keep things neat.
When I walked into her flat, everywhere I looked there were little trinkets and knick-knacks gathering dust. There were stacks of mismatched crockery, and even empty jam jars piled up on the shelves. In the bathroom, theres a litter tray for her cat and she only bothers to clean it once a week. There was rubbish strewn about the floor, half-hidden under tables and chairs. And, to top it off, the whole place absolutely reeked that damp, musty smell mixed with something rotting.
So anyway, my aunt offered me something to eat and started laying out the table. As she began setting out the plates and cutlery, I noticed everything was grubby you could see the streaks and spots. While she was spooning something from a pot, I quietly grabbed some antibacterial wipes from my bag and started giving the forks and knives a proper clean.
Of course, she clocked what I was doing. When I sort of picked at my food, she looked at me and said, Arent you hungry, or do you not like it?
What was I supposed to say? Honestly, have you ever found yourself in a situation like that?
