I’m Glad I Chose Not to Have Children—Now at 70, I Have No Regrets

I’m glad I chose not to have children. Now that Im 70, I have absolutely no regrets.
Earlier today, I had an appointment with a dermatologist and was waiting in the hallway for my turn. A woman sat beside me, and we struck up a conversation. She turned out to be a delightful person to chat with. Strangely enough, after speaking to her, I found my outlook on many things began to shift.
The first thing I noticed was how elegant and well-groomed she looked. Id have guessed she was no older than 50 at most. But during our chat, she admitted to being over 70. Honestly, Id never have thought it. She looked marvellous and stood out from most women her age.
From our conversation, I learnt shed been married twice, but now lived on her own. With her first husband, they divorced while still relatively young. She hadnt wanted children.
Hed known from the beginning that she wished for a child-free marriage, but after her 30th birthday, he started dropping hints that a true family ought to include children. Over time, though, she never felt the urge for motherhood, so she held firm.
It was simply easier for her to part ways than to bring a child into the world against her wishes. They had an honest conversation and went their separate ways.
Her second marriage was to a divorced man who already had a child from his previous marriage, and didnt want any more. In fact, they got on rather wellchildren were never a topic of conversation. He was quite pleased she didnt want any. Their happiness was cut short, unfortunately, when he died in a car accident.
She confessed that being alone doesnt trouble her at all. On the contrary, shes happy she doesnt have to compromise for anyone else. In her retirement, shes convinced shell never regret the decision she made.
Her friends, who once imagined their children would support them in old age, now just sigh with disappointment. Children grow up and go their own way. Older parents dont seem to be needed. Thats precisely why she never wanted children in the first place and has never looked back. These days, she lives a fulfilling life and enjoys every single moment. For her, the absence of children is a relief, never a burden.

I wont end up sick and starving. While my friends spent fortunes on their children, I was able to save. Now my savings will be more than enough for care should I ever need it!
