My father-in-law believed we would always support him.
My husband was brought up in a cheerful, loving household. But when his father reached the age of 57, his wifemy mother-in-lawsadly passed away. Of course, it was tremendously hard on my father-in-law to survive such a loss. We decided the best course was to sell his flat, split the proceeds, and have him come live with us until he could somehow work through his grief. It seemed reasonable at the time.
We thought he might stay for about six months before purchasing his own place, but things didnt turn out that way. He grew extremely fond of living with us. He never chipped in for the bills or groceries, not a penny. I cooked his meals, laundered his clothes, and kept his room tidy. He simply went off to work each day. For him, life in our home was like a perpetual holiday.
He carried on that way, living under our roof for a full eleven years. Eventually, he began lecturing us on what we should do and how we ought to do it, establishing his own set of house rules. We had simply had enough. So, we resolved to buy him a house just outside the town. Hes still a healthy man, truly in the prime of life, perfectly capable of living on his own.
We purchased a home for him, ensuring all was comfortable and in order for his move. Yet my father-in-law started spinning yarns about chest pains and ailments. It was mostly a ruse, just so he could avoid living alone and remain with us. But I cant do it any longer. I long to rest, to enjoy a quiet life with just my immediate family. I am weary. I often wonder nowwhat is to be done?
