You know, I honestly feel really lucky to have my husband. Hes pretty much the perfect man for mejust the right mix of kind, charming, and generous. But as everyone says, theres no such thing as a flawless person, and, well, he has this tiny quirk: hes incredibly sociable, friendly, and outgoing. Now, that doesnt sound like a big deal, does it? But heres the thing
James has this way of staying friends with women, and it makes me a bit uneasy sometimes. Its not that he hides anythinghis messages are right there if I wanted to read them, and hes got nothing to hide at allbut it still rubs me the wrong way. For years now, hes kept up a lively email conversation with an old work friend of his. Her names Abigail, and she moved abroad ages ago after she got married, but somehow shes never really disappeared from our lives. I mean, her name keeps popping up in our house to this day.
Whenever something interesting or odd happens to Jameswhether its at work or during one of his tripstwo people hear about it straight away: me and this Abigail. Even when hes faced with a big decision, hell often ask not just for my take on things, but hers too. He talks things over with Abigail all the time. Sometimes theyll get into conversations about topics that, frankly, should stay just between us! I get genuinely frustrated by it.
Dont get me wrong, though, hes a great husband. We share the household chores 50-50, and he earns a decent living. We always make time to go to dinner, catch the latest play, or head out for a Saturday night film together. Its justI still cant wrap my head around why he feels the need to be this close to another woman.
Maybe I sound a bit daft, but lately Ive started to get jealous. Its not even about the other women at his officeI couldnt care less about themits just this one, Abigail.
Im left wondering: whats missing? Why does he even need this friendship? Its starting to really get to me, and I just cant work out whats going on in his head.
