I’m 41 Years Old and Have Never Cheated on My Wife—But Before I Met Her, I Was No Saint. I’d Never Had a Serious Girlfriend and Lived the Bachelor Life to the Fullest.

I’m forty-one now, and I’ve never been unfaithful to my wife. Before I met her, though, I certainly wasnt a saint. I never had a serious girlfriend and lived the life of a free man. I’d go out with one woman, then anotherFridays meant dates, Saturdays were for parties. I owed nobody explanations, since I never made promises to anyone.
I worked in an electrical workshop and earned a decent wage. After work, Id meet up with friends at pubs, clubs, or someones birthday party. Sometimes Id spend the night with a woman and disappear the next daynot because I was cruel, but simply because I wasnt looking for anything serious. I always said commitment wasnt for me.
Everything changed the day I met my wife. She was at the hospital, training as a nurse. Id gone in to fix an electrical problem. She asked me for help with a faulty socket and we started chatting. She asked my name, I asked hers, we laughed, and at the end of my shift she gave me her number. I texted her that very eveningnot with my usual swagger, but nervous and unsure, like a teenager.
Our early dates were simple: walks, ice creams at the park, fish and chips after work. Gradually, I stopped paying attention to other womennot because she asked me to, but because I genuinely didnt want to. I knew she wasnt just another someone.
When I asked her to be my girlfriend, I was honest: If we start something, were going to do it properly. I dont want anything halfway. She looked me straight in the eye and said, I dont share. I replied, Neither do I. From that day on, I realised faithfulness wasnt just about ignoring other women; it was about keeping my word.
We married without much fuss. We lived in a rented room with a borrowed bed and a tiny cooker. We worked long hoursher on night shifts, me doing overtime. We didnt have energy for adventures; just bills, fatigue, and shared dreams.
Temptation still found me. At work, a colleague messaged me past midnight, sent accidental photos, told me I deserved better than a tired wife. Once, she waited for me in the car park and suggested a trip to a motel. I said no, got in my car, and went straight home.
At a mates party, a drunk woman sat next to me and started stroking my arm. I stood up, found my wife, and we left without saying goodbye. Id rather seem rude than cross a line that could never be undone.
Friends tease mesay I used to be alive and now Im boring. Theyre rightIm not the same man. I used to live for myself. Now I live with someone.
The other day, my son asked if Ive ever been with other women while married. I told him, No. He looked surprised and said nearly all his friends parents split because of cheating. Thats when I realised my choices arent just about my marriagetheyre shaping my children, too.
I was a ladies man when I was free, because I owed no one anything. But the day I decided she was the woman I wanted to grow old with, I understood loyalty isnt a prisonits a daily choice. And even now, I have no regrets about choosing her every day.
