My brother told me that our mother had laid a hand on his wife, and right away, I knew something didnt add up.
During our holiday, Mum rang me in absolute hysterics. She couldn’t stop crying and was clearly in a terrible state. Once I hung up, I got in touch with my brother to find out what had happened. He answered sharply, telling me I ought to ask our mother myself because, apparently, I knew exactly why she was so upset. He even said she had got what she deserved. Feeling lost, my husband and I made the decision to cut our trip short. Despite the hefty price of the tickets, we hurried back home.
When we got there, I found Mum still inconsolable and unable to calm herself. I gave her a bit of camomile tea to soothe her nerves, and she began to tell us about the awful incident. It turned out that when shed come home from work, shed been shocked to find her daughter-in-law covered in bruisesand knowing that she was pregnant, Mum became even more alarmed. She rushed over to her, embraced her, and tried to find out what had happened. It was at that moment my brother came into the house, and his wife leapt up and started screaming, accusing Mum of hitting her.
Mum stood there, at a complete loss, not able to make sense of what was going on. My brother, believing his wifes story, was horrified and kicked our mother out of his house straightaway. Later, he took his wife to the hospital, and tragically, she miscarried. He refused to hear any explanation, completely avoided us, and blamed Mum for the entire ordeal. Despite it all, something didnt sit right with me, and I chose to have faith in my mothers words. Thankfully, the truth eventually surfaced and from an unexpected place.
It turned out that my sister-in-laws friend, a genuinely kind soul, decided to tell me what really happened. She explained that it was all a scheme by my sister-in-law to manipulate her husband into throwing Mum out of the house. She had purposely done things to end the pregnancy herself. When my brother discovered the truth, he was furious and immediately told his wife to leave. He then apologised to our mother with all his heart.
A mothers heart is always forgiving and, despite everything that had happened, Mum welcomed my brother back with open arms.
