My mates are out there buying flats and spending good money on renovations, while my girlfriends blown through all our savings trying to make us a quick fortune.
Everyone else seems to have married a lovely wife, and Ive ended up with a complete fool.
She went around bragging to everyone, telling them that after the wedding wed pick up a flat no trouble, because wed have a tidy stash from the guests and her family would chip in. In reality, her parents couldnt help laughing at the mess wed made. Apparently, since shed chosen to marry a worthless estate agent at twenty, with no proper education to speak of, wed have to sort the flat out on our own. So, I had no choice but to bring my wife back to mine, at my parents house. Family antics, I tell you.
My brother already lives there, along with his pregnant girlfriend, so you can imagine how cramped its become. My parents gently hinted it would be nice if we moved out, even if it was just to a rented place, but I wanted to keep saving so we could get a mortgage and buy a house down the line. My wife knew exactly what my plans wereshe even said she wanted to move out as well. But what did she do? She spent all our savings on shares.
And for what? To grow our savings.
My mum nearly fainted when I told her about it. Honestly, my heart breaks too, because the share prices have gone down and it’s not easy just to sell them off. Either we take a hit and lose some money now, or we risk holding on and just hope that things start looking up someday. And thats our life: everyone else settled, with families and their own places, meanwhile were stuck with sharesand not much else.
My wifes been in tears over it, regretting falling for some get-rich-quick nonsense. She even paid those so-called advisers who promised to show her the best ways to invest. As for me, all I can think about is divorce. I dont think my love is strong enough to get past all thisI cant let it go when all I see is the money I worked so hard for, saved for years, now turning into dust.
If Im being honest with myself, the marriage was rocky from the very start. This whole mess just goes to show, Ive been stuck in a streak of bad luck ever since I married this daft English girl.
