A strikingly attractive young woman boarded the aeroplane with an air of confidence. Her face was nearly hidden behind oversized sunglasses, and a luxury designer handbag hung from her shoulder. When she reached her seat, she realised she was to sit beside an elderly gentleman of modest appearancehis shirt clean but well-worn, and his shoes showing the marks of many years journeys.
As soon as she settled, the young woman promptly called over the stewardess.
Could you move me to another seat? she asked, her tone brisk and chilly. I cannot travel next to someone like him Just look at what hes wearing, and those worn-out shoes. I deserve better company.
The stewardess, taken aback by her words, responded with composure.
Im very sorry, Miss, but all the seats in economy are fully booked.
The woman exhaled sharply and turned to gaze out the window, irritation plain on her features. The elderly man merely lowered his eyes, saying not a single word.
Disturbed by the scene, the stewardess went to the cockpit to explain to the captain what had transpired. He listened quietly, then smiled serenely.
