My Stepfather Is Kicking Me Out of My Family Home – And the Most Frustrating Part Is That My Own Mum Is Taking His Side

I am 21 years old. Five years ago, my mum brought her second husband into our home. I disliked him from the very beginning. He worked as a caretaker, and turned up at our door with just two suitcases, but straight away started bossing me about and trying to assert himself. Honestly, hes repulsive I never understood what my mum saw in him. He earns barely enough to scrape by and still pays maintenance to his ex-wife. Ive never got on with him. At first, I kept quiet. But eventually, arguing became the norm between us.

After finishing sixth form, I managed to get a place at medical school on a bursary. Ever since I was little, I dreamed of becoming a doctor. Studying medicine is incredibly demanding, and I try my best to keep up, but its not easy. At least I managed to get a grant, which helps a bit.

About six months ago, that man started having a real go at me, saying Im just sponging off them. Youre an adult you shouldnt be expecting your mother to pay for everything. Were the ones putting food on the table and clothes on your back. When I was your age, I already had a job! He kept digging at me for not bringing any money home, implying that I ought to be working to help them since we were struggling. The worst part is that Mum backs him up, insisting hes right and claiming shes just trying to teach me how to stand on my own two feet.

She even said to me, Couldnt you get a part-time job? Its really tough for us to support you, were not made of money, you know. Then, just two evenings ago, her husband said at dinner that grown-up children ought to live independently, away from their parents. I looked at Mum, hoping shed say something, but she remained silent. That silence spoke volumes.

I went to my room in a kind of daze. The next morning, Mum confronted me about it. This is all just too much for me, love. I feel stuck. Theres been so much bickering, and Im tired of it. I want a peaceful life, you know. Hes rightyoure old enough to move out and stand on your own. Youve got a month to find somewhere to live. Im still in shock. I never thought the day would come when my mum would push me out like this. Ill never forgive her.
