Im 38 years old and for the past two years, Ive been living with a man whos five years older than me. His name is Frank. Hes been married before, has two children, and his ex-wife, whos unemployed, calls him for money or some sort of favour every single evening.
Ive never been married, nor do I have children of my own. Some would say Ive no idea what its like to have kids or a proper family, but thats not true I do understand. Still, I know its not right to live with someone, as partners, and see him dash off to another womans house all the time.
Franks ex-wife appears to want him back. She rings up each day with some new crisis or trouble. Without fail, Frank goes round straight after work and rarely comes home before its late. We cant even enjoy a proper Christmas just the two of us; she always intrudes, something always comes up. But why does Frank need to drop everything and go round there?
All his family and mates live nearby as well, so the answer seems pretty clear: shes trying to get my partner back. Honestly, Im exhausted by all of it. But what am I supposed to do end the relationship? Trying to talk to Frank doesnt help, nothing changes.
Reflecting on it all, I realise sometimes love alone isnt enough if you dont both leave the past behind.
