We’ve Decided Not to Send Our Daughter to Her Grandmother’s Anymore

Our niece, Charlotte, was just thirteen when we decided to send her off to her grandmas in the countryside for a couple of weeks during her school holiday. At first, Charlotte really enjoyed the time she spent with her grandmotherthey got on like a house on fire. But as the years went by, you know, Charlotte started getting older and the charm of village life began to fade for her. She missed her friends, the buzz of the city, weekend cinema tripsbasically all the things kids love about living in town. On top of that, Charlotte was her grandmas only granddaughter, so her visits really lit up her nans days.

One summer, Charlottes dad took her over to her nans place while her mum, Susan, was in hospital having their second baby. It sounded like the perfect planget some fresh air, spend quality time with her grandma, and take Charlottes mind off all the changes happening at home. Her dad sent over some cash to help with any expenses while Charlotte was staying there, which was a nice little boost for her grandma as well.

At first, her grandmother didn’t ask her to help out much around the houseshe was just over the moon to have Charlotte there, someone to chat to, share her stories and day-to-day life. But as time went on, Charlotte started to get a bit picky and had a few moans. She knew her dad was sending money to grandma especially for her, so naturally, she expected the besttreats, meals, basically everything just so.

Things properly came to a head one day when Charlotte threw a strop over someone eating her pain au chocolat. She ended up blaming a relative who stayed at her nans as well. It all got blown out of proportion, and before they knew it, Charlottes dad had to come back to sort things out. After all the confusion and tantrums, tensions started bubbling up in the family, and it was decidedno more sending Charlotte off to her grandmother’s for the holidays.

Honestly, this broke her nans heart. Those visits meant the world to her, even if there were rough patches. She absolutely loved having Charlotte around. But, you know, things changelife moves on, and those special visits came to an end.
