I was standing in the kitchen drinking coffee while my friend’s son watched cartoons. A few minutes later, there was a terrible bang.

So, you know how it is when you finally get a day off work and just want to tackle the never-ending household chores? Well, that was mebusy cleaning and organising, minding my own business. Out of the blue, my friend Claire rings me up, saying she and her son were on their way to my place. Honestly, I tried telling her I was right smack in the middle of a deep clean, but it was like talking to a brick wall.

Ten minutes later, there they were at my front door. I wasn’t too thrilled about little Oliver tagging alongsuch an energetic boy, always up to mischief.

We settled in the kitchen with some coffee, catching up, while Oliver was glued to the cartoons. All of a sudden, there was this massive crash from the next room. I rushed in and, would you believe it, my fish tank was completely shattered. Water pouring out everywhere, my poor fish flapping on the carpet. Absolutely everywhere. My heart sank thinking about the mess and the chance that water would seep down to Mrs. Barnes below.

Claire darted over to Oliver to check if he was alright, and I just grabbed the nearest towel, frantically mopping up to avoid a disaster with the neighbours. Once wed got things under control, Claire announced she and Oliver had to go.

I asked, Could you help me take the carpet to the dry cleaners at least? She sighed, No, Olivers really shaken up, I need to calm him down.

Curious, I asked Oliver what happened. He shrugged and said hed spotted a paper aeroplane and tried to catch it. Except, what really floored me was, it wasnt just any old scrap of paper. He pointed toward my cupboard and, as it turned out, the aeroplane was my marriage certificatehe mustve folded it when rooting about in there.

Claire just waved her hand, Oh, Ill just get a copy made, dont worry about it.

Surebecause, obviously, Ill just fork out for a new aquarium and pay for any repairs next door, as if its nothing. And apparently, according to Claire, it was my fault for leaving my certificate where anyone could see it.

When they finally left, I popped round to Mrs. Barnes to check shed not had water dripping down her walls, tidied up the room, and collapsed into bed. But, get thisevening rolls around, and Claire sends me a message saying I owe her money. Turns out shed gone to see a therapist, claiming Olivers now absolutely traumatised. I just didnt reply. Blocked her number, job done.
