I was certain I’d seen the boy my daughter brought home before. And when I finally remembered where, I rushed straight to my daughter to warn her.

My husband and I have worked tirelessly from the very start of our life together. Weve always wanted our children to have everything they could possibly need, never lacking in anything. Thats why, after our daughter was born, my husband juggled two jobs to provide for us. We did our utmost to raise our daughter to be thoughtful and well-mannered. Time slipped by unnoticed. Before long, we realised our little girl had grown up.

She turned into a truly beautiful young woman and certainly didnt want for admirers. Later, we began to notice a thoughtful, almost delicate air about her. In time, the reason became clear shed fallen in love. My husband and I were delighted at the news and even asked our daughter to introduce us to her newfound beau. We wondered who this fortunate man could be to have won her heart. She promised she would bring him round soon.

Recently, she told us that she planned to invite him to our home. I spent the entire day in the kitchen, preparing all sorts of dishes, while my husband made sure the flat was spotless. We both worked hard, looking forward to meeting him with genuine excitement. Our daughter seemed positively radiant she was constantly smiling, practically floating about the house. My husband and I watched her, hearts brimming with indescribable joy that things were going so well for her.

He finally arrived, making a good impression at once. Polite, witty, friendly I invited them both to sit at the table. Yet, throughout the evening, I found myself unable to shake the feeling that Id seen him somewhere before; his face was oddly familiar. Try as I might, I couldnt quite place it while the night wore on. Conversation and laughter flowed freely, and our daughters boyfriend proved himself most charming, putting everyone at ease.

But when he left, the memory came rushing back. I had seen his face in a bulletin. He and another man had been named as conmen, with an appeal for information about their whereabouts. I immediately told my husband and daughter. She broke down in tears, accusing me of making up a story on purpose.

But I truly wasnt inventing anything. I only wanted to warn my daughter, to protect her from any possible trouble. We care deeply about whom she chooses to share her life with. In response, she packed her things in haste and left our home.

We havent heard a word from her for a whole month now. She doesnt even answer our calls. Im haunted by doubt and guilt perhaps I was wrong, and maybe my daughters choice is perfectly normal.
