My husband grew up in a cheerful and loving family. However, when his father reached the age of 57, tragedy struck as his wife sadly passed away. Naturally, my father-in-law found it very difficult to cope with such a loss. So, we decided to sell his flat in Manchester, split the proceeds, and bring him to live with us for a while, giving him comfort until his grief would ease. It seemed sensible at the time.
We assumed hed stay with us for about half a year, then buy his own place once he felt better. But that never happened. He grew quite fond of living in our home. When it came to bills and shopping, he never contributed a single pound. I cooked his meals, washed his clothes, tidied his room. All he did was go off to work each day, living as if he were on some endless holiday.
He stayed for eleven years in total. After a while, he began lecturing us about what we ought to do and how we should do it, creating his own house rules. Wed frankly had enough. That was when we resolved to buy him a little cottage just outside town. He was healthy, still in good shape, and perfectly able to live independently.
We bought him a proper house and made sure everything was ready for him to settle in. Yet my father-in-law started making up tales about heart pains and other ailmentsjust so he could stay at ours. But I didnt want that anymore. I longed for peace, just to spend time with my immediate family. I was worn out. And so, I still wonder: what should I do?
