It used to be thought that you should marry just once and stay together for the rest of your days. Now, people realise that wasting your life with a man who shows no care or attention is simply foolish. Why struggle to save a marriage that clearly brings no happiness? Sadly, a peaceful separation isnt always possible, nor is avoiding the emotional impact on children.
My husband left me for someone else, and I was left alone with our one-year-old child. He said he was no longer interested in me. Wed been married for six years and, generally, our life was comfortable, though we did argue from time to time. After my son was born, my husband changed; hed find any excuse to get irritable and disappear in the evenings. I suspected he was seeing someone, but I didnt want to believe it. Then, one day, he packed his bags and walked out. I was alone.
Six months ago, I met my second husband. Philip proved to be a truly caring man. He noticed how difficult it was for me to raise and support a child by myself. After our second date, when he walked me to the door, he gently asked if Id like to nip to the shop for some groceries. Then he went ahead and bought plenty for my child.
I felt embarrassed but grateful for his genuine wish to help. Later, I asked Philip if he could buy some meat, as I only managed to buy it occasionally. All my earnings went towards paying off the mortgage for the flat bought during my marriage, and for food shopping. Before, the idea of taking out a loan for a place and paying it off as a couple didnt frighten me but things had clearly not worked out that way.
When Philip told me I could buy anything I liked at the shop, I actually cried. That was the first real help anyone had ever given me! I only picked up essentials and didnt even go near the sweets or fruit aisles. But Philip popped chocolates and oranges in the basket anyway. He then brought two big bags round to my flat.
We spent the next few months together, and with time I became utterly convinced that Philip was an exceptionally kind person. I saw he truly cared for the woman he loved, and wouldnt hold back for me. He proved himself invaluable. We soon got married. Philip turned out to be a wonderful husband and a loving father.
Now I know that empty promises and hollow affections mean nothing. What counts most is genuine care and attention from your partner. When someone looks after you, you begin to feel safe and return their love. Im incredibly happy with Philip. I feel Ive found someone trustworthy, with whom I can live calmly and peacefully. And that really is happiness!
Anna was lucky to have met Philip. Not all women need diamonds and fancy flats to feel happy. Most women are happiest when theyre treated kindly, cared for, and respected.
Be loved and choose your partner wisely.
