You know how Tom absolutely hates being caught in any ridiculous situations, right? He always has to keep up his Im-so-tough persona. So anyway, the other day, I sneak a peek into the bathroomand honestly, what I saw just made my day. I quickly duck behind the door, doing my best not to burst out laughing.
Theres Tom, softly singing to our cat while trying to wash him:
“If youre a good kitty, say meow!
If youre the best little kitty, say meow
If youre my favourite kitty, say meow!”
Usually, the cat is a furry tornadoscratching, hissing, doing everything short of calling the RSPCA. But that day, he was oddly quiet. Either he was enjoying the serenade, or he was just in utter shock.
“Well wash your fluffy backsay meow
Well scrub those little pawssay meow
Well clean your stripy tailsay meow”
And then, in the tiniest squeak, the cat actually went, “Meow.”
Mate, I nearly collapsed behind the wall. I honestly regret not filming it, though secretly Im sure Tom would never have forgiven me if that video ever saw the light of day.
Then Tom goes, “What, you dont like that one? Shall I sing you something else?”
“Meow,” says the cat.
So Tom pauses for a second and then starts mumbling another tune as he soaps up the cat:
“Rain keeps painting
Sad patterns on my window,
And all I see is your silhouette, Madonna”
At this point, tears are running down my face from trying not to laugh out loud.
Thats when it hits meI dont think Tom has ever sung to me. Hes never been the romantic type, not really, but hes got plenty of other good qualities. Still, look at him serenading the cat. I might be a bit jealous if it werent so hilarious.
The cat, aka Madonna, lets out another pitiful meow, and Tom switches to singing Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines.
That was it; I couldnt hold it in any longer. I realised if I stuck around, theyd catch me for sure. So I started heading back to the lounge, but just as I thought Id composed myself, I hear:
“Dum-da-dum, the tellys on,
Dum-da-dum, the tellys on,
Dum-da-dum, the tellys on”
I couldnt help myselfI had to finish the line:
“And two little fixers inside!”
So Im scrambling back to the sofa, wheezing with laughter. I dont know if they sang any more after that; I honestly had the giggles so badly I got hiccups.
A couple of minutes later, my macho husband and our damp, grumpy cat came stalking into the room, both looking at me like Id just completely lost the plot. I quickly shoved my face into a cushion to hide my laughter.
They both gave me these snooty looks and marched off to the kitchen with as much dignity as possible. Honestly, priceless.
