A Friend of Mine, Aged 42, Has Found a Wife: He Says She’s a Brilliant Housekeeper and an Excellent Cook – and That’s All That Matters to Him

Ive known Adam since I was a child. We grew up in the same neighbourhood, and of course, became friends early on. As teenagers, our group would often linger around town, strolling through the High Street or just lazing about on park benches. We never took dating girls too seriously back thenit was more about what our mates might think of us, never wanting to lose face in front of the lads.

Eventually, I joined the army, while Adam managed to wriggle out of service somehow. When I got back, I found myself a job and later settled down, got married, and over ten years my wife and I had two children together. Yet, we gradually grew apart, until it seemed like we were just strangers sharing the same roof. The arguments started happening more often, and we soon realised wed be better off living separately. It wasnt long before we got divorced.

Two years later, now a single man again, I quite randomly bumped into Adam. I barely recognised him at firsthe’d put on a lot of weight in the twelve years since Id last seen him.

We sat down for a chat in a café and started catching up. I found out Adam had also divorced and was on the lookout for someone new. A year passed, and I met a wonderful woman and remarried. Not long after, I ran into Adam again, and discovered hed found himself a partner too. But, if Im honest, I didnt take to his new wife. She was rather overweight.

I asked him, What was it about her that drew you in?

Adam replied that she was a brilliant housekeeper and a smashing cook.

He grinned, Plus, she gives me peace of mind! I can enjoy a pint and watch the football in peace, or go out to the pub with the lads whenever I fancy. Shes the perfect womannever nags or stops me doing what I want.

I must admit, I was taken aback by his answer. For me, a relationship is about so much more. Of course, being able to cook and keep the house tidy matters, but the heart of it is lovethats what counts above all.

Some people put more value on having a spotless home and eating good food. As for me, I want my partner and I to be on the same wavelength, to feel truly united. We should respect and understand each other. Its a joy when you share interests as a coupleyou can cook together, tidy the house together. My wife and I often do these things side by side.

If two people are cycling together, pedalling in sync, theyve a much better chance at reaching the end of the road successfully.

What do you think about that?
