Hey, so let me tell you what happened. My names Emily, Im married and I have an absolutely lovely daughter. One autumn afternoon, we were taking a stroll in Hyde Park, just enjoying the crisp air, when I got a phone call from an old friend that seemed pretty urgent. I got caught up in the chat and, for just a split second, my attention drifted away from my little one. In that brief moment, my daughter slipped and accidentally tumbled into a chilly pond nearby.
My heart nearly stopped total panic mode. I was about to jump in after her, but before I could move, this homeless woman, whod been sat on a bench close by, leapt straight into the water and pulled my daughter out. I couldnt believe it. I was so overcome with gratitude, I hardly knew what to say to thank her properly. I did manage to convince her to come back to ours for a bit to get warm, and it turns out her name was Margaret. Honestly, Ill always owe her for saving my daughters life.
When we got back to the house, I made her a nice cup of tea and found her some clean clothes so she could change out of her wet things. Margaret shared a bit of her heartbreaking story with me over our cuppa. Shed been betrayed by her own daughter, which is why she was living rough. Apparently, theyd bought two flats together one meant for Margaret, and the other for her daughter and her family. But her daughter did the unthinkable, ran off with her husband, and took every penny with her, leaving Margaret homeless and penniless. Now, she was just scraping by, collecting bottles around the parks boiler room to make ends meet. Listening to her, I felt so sad for her it was just so unfair.
I just couldnt get my head around how any daughter could treat her own mum like that. I simply couldnt let Margaret go back out onto the streets, so I asked her to stay with us for a while. When my husband got home, I explained everything he did scold me a little for losing sight of our daughter, but he was incredibly grateful to Margaret for saving her, and he also asked her to stay. She was hesitant though; she didnt want to be a bother.
So instead, we helped her find a proper job and managed to get her into a lovely care home not far from us. We go to visit her quite often now, and she seems genuinely content and happy there. Our daughter now has the most wonderful grandma, and were honestly so thankful that weve had the chance to help the remarkable woman who once saved our little girls life.
