After Ten Years of Marriage, She Left for Another Man. A Year Later, She Returned, Pregnant and Broken-Hearted…

After ten years of marriage, she left me for another man. A year later, she turned up on my doorstep, pregnant and broken

I met my wife, Eleanor, nearly twelve years ago. Back then, I was still studying at the engineering school in Manchester, living in student halls. Eleanor had just arrived from a tiny village in Cornwall, wide-eyed, alone, and utterly lost in the noisy chaos of city life. We didnt hit it off straight awayhonestly, I barely noticed her at first. She was quiet, always tucked away in a corner with her books, speaking barely a word.

But time worked its magic. After a few months, we started chattingawkwardly at first, then every evening without fail. She confided her doubts; I rambled about my grand plans. Eventually, the hall warden gave us a couples flat, figuring we were serious. And just like that, our life began.

I always knew what I wantedto be solid, dependable, the kind of man who could not only build a house but fill it with warmth. I told her plainly, You wont work. A woman should tend the home and raise the children. And if a man cant provide for his family, hes no man at all. She didnt argue. She cooked, cleaned, waited for me each evening. We were a proper little unit.

As the years rolled by, I climbed the ladder. I joined a construction firm, worked my way up to site manager, then started my own business. We bought a house in the suburbs, two carsone for me, one for her. We lived the dream. Well, almost. One thing was missing: children. The years slipped past, and the house stayed quiet. We saw doctors, spent thousands of pounds, endured test after test Nothing. I buried my grief. She said nothing, but her eyes were hollow. One day, we gave up. If fate said no, so be it.

Then it all fell apart. Without warning. Without a scrap of explanation.

I came home early that daytrying to dodge the traffic. Her car wasnt in the drive. The gate wide open. Odd. I waited. The evening dragged on. Then, a text from an unknown number:

*Forgive me. I cant live a lie anymore. Theres someone else. Hes coming home, and Im leaving with him. Ive betrayed you, but maybe one day youll understand*

The floor vanished beneath me. I sat on the ground in the house Id built for two, now just one. Only Theo, my best mate and business partner, pulled me through. Stopped me from drowning in whisky or torching the whole lot.

Time passed. I learned to breathe again. I saw Eleanor in photos onlinesomewhere in the Scottish Highlands. Impossible to scrub her from my mind. Every corner here whispered her name. I prayed for her return. And the universe listened.

A year later, to the day, the doorbell rang. I opened it and nearly crumpled. There she was. Gaunt, wrecked, clothes filthy and worn. And that belly. Huge. Nearly due.

Eleanor dropped to her knees, sobbing, begging forgiveness. Her lover had thrown her out. Shed cheated on him too, and hed booted her onto the street. She had nothing left: no money, no home, no hope. Except me.

You can judge me. Call me weak, say I shouldve slammed the door in her face. But heres the thingI couldnt. Because despite everything, I still loved her. Because even through the hurt, I wanted her beside me. Because I knew one truth: everyone deserves a second chance. And if I didnt forgive her, Id be the one lost.

Years have passed. Weve got a son nowthe one I never thought Id have. I love him as if he were my own, because he is: by choice, by love. And I love Eleanor, even if the scar on my heart wont ever fade.

Ive never thrown the past in her face. Never brought it up. Because real love? Its choosing to stay. No matter what.
