How he wished! This suitor thought he could move into my flat and live off me.
Looking back, I marvel at my determination. By the time I reached twenty-five, Id managed, through hard work and careful saving, to buy a flat of my own. I never had help from my mum or dad, no relatives stepped in it was entirely my doing.
Then I met George, and for my folly, I let slip that I owned a place outright. Despite that, I made it very clear I had no intention of moving into his flat. The plan was hed rent something suitable for us, while Id let out my own place and put aside the money for a car.
He agreed at the time, promising hed soon have enough money and wed move in together. But half a year later, he turned up at my door, suitcase in hand, declaring hed lost his job and was completely broke.
He asked if I could take him in, just for a little while. Thankfully, he had his own parents to fall back on. As for me, I did not let him stay. I could see right through itjust an excuse to live at my expense. In the end, I broke things off with him, and Ive never regretted standing my ground.
