He Abandoned His Children for a First Love Without Looking Back

When Harry and I got married, I was twenty, and he was only eighteen. We hadn’t planned to start a family so soon, but two lines on the test made the decision for us. Nine months later, I gave birth to twins—two beautiful girls. There were three of us now, with a whole life ahead. We were young, naive, but full of hope.

We lived modestly, always short on money. Harry worked tirelessly—day shifts at the factory, nights at the warehouse, odd jobs as a mover or furniture assembler, whatever he could find. Despite having two babies, I took on side work at home—knitting, sewing, writing freelance articles. It was exhausting, and sometimes I wanted to give up, but we pushed through. When the girls started nursery, I landed a proper job and even got a promotion a year later. We paid off our debts, took our first proper holiday, and finally breathed easier.

Fifteen years. Fifteen years we were together. Raising our daughters, juggling chores, sharing burdens and joys. But something broke. I noticed Harry changing—distant. He used to rush home, but now he was always “working late,” though he’d changed jobs ages ago to one with perfect hours. He said it was overtime, emergencies, helping a mate. I believed him because I thought we were a team.

Then one day, my gut screamed like a fire alarm. I checked his phone—calls, messages, location history. The truth hit me: my husband was cheating. Coldly, calculated.

I confronted him, hoping I was wrong. He looked me in the eye… and admitted it. Said he’d reconnected with his first love, Emily—the one from school. That he’d never forgotten her. That he finally knew who he loved.

I kicked him out. No hesitation. He lingered at first, staying with his mum. She called, begging me to forgive, saying he was confused. I refused to listen. Filed for divorce. The betrayal burned—not just of me, but of our family, our children.

Time passed. He started coming around again. Said he missed us, wanted to be part of our lives. I was wary, but the girls missed him. I shielded them from the worst of it. Slowly, we began spending time together—trips to the park, cinema nights, even a little family outing to the countryside. It felt… normal again. He moved back in, unofficially. We were a family once more.

Then—another twist. I found out I was pregnant. Two months along. My hands shook. Would he run again? Harry said he was with me, but in reality… he kept sleeping at his mum’s. And Emily—that school sweetheart—was always on the phone. I even met her once, hoping to talk sense into her. All she did was shrug. “Not my problem. Let him decide.”

He decided. Moved in with her. Left me—pregnant—alone. Never acknowledged our son. Saw him once. Once. Then vanished.

Nearly two years now. I’m raising my boy solo, with help from my parents. The girls are older, pretending not to understand, but they do. Harry… erased us. I don’t call, don’t write. I’ve moved on. But the wound remains. Betrayal from a husband is one pain. Abandoning your children for the past? That’s a different kind of hurt. A story I’d wish on no one. Sometimes, the past isn’t worth chasing—not when it costs the future.
