He Just Left… Yet She Lived Only for Him

He just left… And she had lived for him.

They had spent seven years together. Seven long, strained years where Poppy tried to be perfect. By the book—spotless home, endless care, constant compromise. She had mastered every inch of what a “good wife” should be—just to feel needed, irreplaceable, loved. She was so afraid of being alone again that she had begun to vanish into the effort.

And still, he left.

Not in anger. Not in the heat of an argument. Just once, calmly and coldly, he packed up and said:
“Poppy, I love someone else. I’m leaving.”

She nodded. Stood up. Quietly fetched his suitcase. Packed his shirts, folded his socks, coiled his ties like sleeping snakes. Made sure he didn’t forget his phone charger. Handed him his razor.
“Take this. You’ll need it.”

Only after the door clicked shut did the pain hit like a fist. She slid down the hallway wall, sobbing—not for the loss, but for the failure. Her perfection hadn’t been enough. Again.

Her mate Gemma arrived first. Poppy sat hollow-eyed, staring at nothing. Gemma shook her, pleading—useless. Soon the rest of the girls descended. A full-blown sisterhood invasion, armed with shepherd’s pies, wine, and fierce hugs.

“You did everything for him!” yelled Maisie.
“He never deserved you!” swore Beth.

Poppy stayed silent. Their words dissolved into the hollowness inside.

Then Natasha spoke. The one who always said the brutal truth, no sugar-coating.

“Stop whingeing,” she said flatly. “He’ll crawl back. They always do. There aren’t many women this soft, this patient. Once he’s had his fun, he’ll slink home. Question is—do you want that?”

The others hissed, scolded Natasha for her sharp tongue. But Poppy suddenly whispered:
“Sod him.”

No rage in it. Just the first spark of something waking. Women know this dance—forgiving, enduring, waiting. But when betrayed? They rise. Smile through the tears. Begin again.

Because now they aren’t living for someone else. They’re living for themselves.
