**Diary Entry**
I cant believe it. My best friend is actually Alexs father. Ive raised the boy for more than four years, never once suspecting he wasnt mine.
Emily and Victor loved each other since school. After graduation, Victor got into an aviation university in another city. Emily didnt make the cut, but they called each other every day.
When Victor started flying, Emily grew jealous of the beautiful flight attendants. She visited him to reconcile, and they spent a tender night, whispering words of love. But the next morning, she saw a message from a stewardessasking when his next flight was, saying she felt safer flying with him. Jealousy took over. Emily stormed out in tears.
Victor was offered a job abroadgreat prospects, excellent pay. He wrestled with how to tell Emily hed be leaving in a year. But three weeks later, she announced she was pregnant.
He proposed. They married in a grand wedding, half the town in attendance. The overseas job was forgottenEmily refused to go. After the wedding, Victor moved them to London. When their son was born, they took out a hefty mortgage on a flat with his mothers help. Victor worked tirelessly to pay it off and support his family.
“If Id gone abroad for that year, I wouldnt be stuck grinding away! Id be climbing the career ladder by now!”
“Of course, Vic! Youd be off with new girls on flights while Im home with the baby?” Emily snapped.
“Your jealousy is suffocating! If Im with you, Im with youno one else!”
Fights became daily, especially after flights. Shed pounce the moment he walked in, rifling through his phone for clues. Three years later, Victor quit flying to become an aviation instructor. Weekends, he drove in a caball for her peace of mind. He gave up his dream to be the best husband and father.
One day, Victor missed a mortgage payment. Needing the contract for the bank, he searched their flat. Emily wasnt home. He found the paperworkand beneath it, a paternity test.
**Results:** Child: Alexander Victor Thompson. Alleged Father: Andrew Michael Bennett. Probability of Paternity: 99%.
Victors world shattered. His best friend was Alexs father. Four years of love, and the boy wasnt his.
He didnt know how to face Emily. That evening, she kissed him hello, but he barely reacted.
“Darling, whats wrong?” she laughed.
“Alex and I are going to the park after dinner.”
She pressed himhad work upset him? Was it another business trip?
“I dont want to talk.” He left the table.
She followed, demanding answers. “You cant ignore me like this! Im your wife!”
“My wife? You kept this from me! I gave up everything for youmy dreams, my life! All for a lie!”
Emily froze. *He knows. But how?*
Two months passed. Victor couldnt bear to speak to her. Worsehow could Andrew hide this?
Andrew had always fancied Emily. He married months before their wedding, accepting shed never be his. Yet at every party, he danced with Emily, not his wife.
Victors mother once remarked, “Emily, you and Andrew wouldve made a lovely pair.”
Emily laughed nervously. “Dont be silly! Im married to your son! We have a childwe love each other!”
“You love him, yet you turn to Andrew for everything. Why?”
“Victors always working! Andrew never says no.”
“Emily, I love my son. I wont let him be deceived.”
At Alexs birth, Victors mother noticed a birthmark on his neckjust like Andrews. As he grew, the resemblance was undeniable. She secretly ran a paternity testusing Alexs cup and Andrews glass.
One night, she confronted Emily in tears. “Youve ruined my sons life! Does Andrew even know?”
Emily begged. “It was one reckless night after a fight with Victor! I thought Alex was his! Please, dont destroy our family!”
Victors mother left heartbroken but kept silent. Emily hid the test results, praying hed never look.
One evening, Victor didnt come home. His things were gone. On Alexs bed lay a new remote-controlled car.
“Mummy, wheres Daddy?”
“Business trip, sweetheart.” Emily wept on the balcony.
She called Victor, pleading. “Please, lets talk!”
“Theres nothing left to say. Ill always love Alex, but I cant live with you.”
When Victor took Alex for weekends, Emily begged for a chance.
“Remember that fight over the stewardess? I went clubbing with friends, got drunk, and woke up in Andrews flat. I wanted to tell you, but I was terrified of losing you. Andrew swore it meant nothingthen he married a week later. When I found out I was pregnant, I was sure Alex was yours. But your mothers test proved otherwise. I tried to forget it. Its Andrews faulthe always envied you! Please, forgive me!”
“Never.”
Victor returned to flying. Months later, he filed for divorce. He sent Alex gifts from every country, supported him financially. Andrew never knewhed moved abroad with his wife.
One reckless night destroyed trust, love, and friendship. Victor lost his best friend and his wife.
Emily lived comfortablya spacious flat, a good income, Victors monthly support. Alex attended the best school. She pampered herself at salons. Everything but love.
She tried endlessly to win Victor back. He never forgave her. Even with other women, he struggled to trust. Eventually, he achieved the career heights hed dreamed of.
Lifes cruel twists. Was Emily right to hide the truth? What would you have done in Victors place?
*Lesson learned: A lie, no matter how buried, will always surface. And the cost is never worth it.*
