I couldnt understand where all the food my wife cooked was going. Then, my mother-in-law came clean and told us the truth.
At first, I was glad to have my mother-in-law staying with us, as shes been a great help. Our son is quite unwell these days, and we felt it best not to send him to nursery. So, my wife asked her mother if she could look after him during the day.
Margaret agreed, but on one conditionshe would come over daily and then return to her own home each evening. She likes to relax in her own space and have her peace and quiet.
There are times when we have important things to take care of in the evening or just want to go out somewhere together. Then, we ask a neighbour to step in, and Margaret heads home to rest. We certainly dont want to tire her out even more.
At the start, everything worked brilliantly. Wed rush back home, and our son would be well-fed and neat. Then, Margaret stopped waiting for us in the evenings and began leaving before we returned.
My wife always likes to prepare meals ahead for the day or even two. Each month, we give my mother-in-law an envelope with some cash. We know shes making room in her schedule for us, and we want to show our appreciation.
But soon I noticed that everything my wife cooked was disappearing. Margaret hardly eats much, and my son eats even less. So, I decided to talk to my mother-in-law about it. She explained that my father-in-law drops by in the afternoons. She gives him something to eat because she doesnt have time to cook in the evenings. So, my father-in-law has his tea at ours.
Honestly, I dont quite know what to say. My mother-in-law goes home every eveningsurely its not too much trouble to make something herself? I wouldnt mind if my father-in-law came once a week for supper, but every single day?
The problem is, we hardly have anything left for our own dinner. My wife keeps quiet about it. When we added it all up, we realised it would be cheaper to pay for a nanny.
Im not happy with the way my in-laws are acting. My wife just asks me to leave it be, but I have another concern. Dont they realise that we have expenses too? We pay my mother-in-law each month for looking after our boy, and now theyre eating our food on top of that. Has anyone else ever dealt with something like this?
