Today I found out that someone had left a baby in the Safe Haven at the side of the maternity ward near the London General Hospital.

Three months after losing my husband, I decided to adopt the little one who had been abandoned there. Gathering all the necessary paperwork as quickly as possible, I managed to get everything sorted. Then there were numerous inspections and assessments from various agencies, all carefully evaluating me and my living situation. Thankfully, I passed with flying colours. Within a matter of days, my new son was home with me. I loved him as if he were my own. I named him after my late husband; to say his name and hear it spoken again felt wonderful.

As my boy grew older, he started asking about having a sister or brother.

I honestly didn’t mind the idea. My job allows me to work remotelyI can handle everything on my laptopso being available for my children is ideal. When the call came about another child, I was overjoyed. I returned home, heart pounding with happiness, and was shown into a small nursery where a tiny baby girl, just three days old, lay sleeping in a cot. The moment I set eyes on her, I knew she was meant to be part of our family. Organising the paperwork and medical checks this time around was much smoother, since I knew exactly what was needed.

And now here we arejust the three of us: myself, my son, and our daughter. I can’t help but feel that were the happiest people in all of England.
