I’m Taking My Grandchildren! You Just Wait and See!

It just so happens that my sister and I share a mother-in-law.

Everyone liked my husband; he was quite the charmer. While he was courting me, he also had his eye on my sister. The moment Daniel realised that my grandmother had left me the flat instead of Emily, he proposed to me without delay.

At that time, my sister was already expectingshe had plans to marry him and wanted to tie him down. She ended up lying to her ex-boyfriend, telling him the baby was his, just so she wouldnt be left on her own.

My husband and I lived in a tiny house with my in-laws. When their neighbours decided to sell their property, my husband convinced me to sell my flat so that we could buy the adjoining plot. I agreed, but it meant we had to take out a loan to build our new home.

My mother-in-law was always driving me mad. She nit-picked at everything, pampered her own daughter, and ordered me about. Once our house was finally finished, she tore down the fence and let her dogs roam into our garden, even though she knew I was terrified of them. It was a blatant show of who was in charge. No matter how many times I begged Daniel to speak to her, he simply said I was making a fuss over nothing.

I couldnt bear it any longer. I went to court to claim my share of the house and buy myself a separate flat. Thats when I discovered that the only name on the deeds was my mother-in-laws; the house was never in both our names. How they pulled off that trick, Ill never know. I found myself homeless.

Meanwhile, Daniel discovered that my sister had ended up inheriting a flat from our father. Determined to split up her marriage, he revealed to her husband that he was, in fact, the biological father of her daughter. I divorced Daniel, and he went on to do exactly the same thing to Emily as he did to me.

During all of this, Emily and I hadnt spoken, so I only found out by chance that they were together. But when she realised Daniel had duped her as well, she suggested we join forces.

We began speaking to neighbours and learned that my mother-in-law and her son had bought five properties this wayusing trusting women as their means. First, Daniel would bring his wife to live at home, then divorce her and leave her with nothing.

We contacted all the other women, and together we prepared a class action lawsuit. But there was no one left to pursueDaniel had fled abroad. My mother-in-law remained and now was demanding custody of the children, saying they were her only grandchildren.

She tried to strip us of our parental rights, arguing that neither of us had our own flat. Each of us was eventually given accommodation, and the situation arose entirely due to her dishonest schemes. After the court case, we were ordered to allow our children to visit their grandmother and not to stop them having a relationship with her.

The worst part is, my mother-in-law turns her granddaughters against us. According to her, the grandmother is the hero and were the villains. She shamelessly undermines our happiness, interrogates us, and teaches the girls to lie about smoking and drinking. Now theyre threatening us: if we dont buy them a tablet, theyll call social services.

“Ill have my grandchildren! You just wait and see!” my mother-in-law shouts.

So, what are we meant to do? How can we stand up to her? Shes wronged us in so many ways and still wont leave us in peace.

Life has a way of showing us that people may not always have our best interests at heart, even family. But the lesson Ive learned is to value my own dignity and protect my children, no matter what tricks others may try. Sometimes, all you can do is stand tall, stay honest, and know your worth.
