Ive come across countless tales of women who have been unfaithful, and while I do my best not to judge, theres honestly something I just cant quite grasp. Its not that I think Im better than anyone elseits simply that infidelity has never been a temptation for me.
Im 34, married, and I lead a completely ordinary life. I go to the gym five times a week, pay attention to what I eat, and enjoy looking after myself. My hair is long and straight, I like to look my best, and I know Im an attractive woman. People often tell me as much, and its obvious from the way men look at me.
Take the gym, for instance. Its hardly unusual for a man to try to strike up a conversation with me. Some ask about exercises, others offer comments disguised as compliments, and some are rather direct. The same happens when Im out with my friends for drinksmen approach, persist, or ask if Im by myself. Ive never pretended not to notice. Quite the opposite; I see it all. But Ive never stepped over the line. Not because Im afraid, but because I simply dont want to.
My husband is a doctora cardiologistand he works incredibly long hours. There are days when hes out before its even light, and gets home after weve already had dinner, or sometimes even later than that. Most of the time, Im at home on my own for much of the day. We have a daughter, and I look after her, the house, and stick to my own routine. Realistically, I could do whatever I wanted and no one would be any the wiser. Still, its never even crossed my mind to use that freedom to cheat.
When Im by myself, I keep busy. I work out, read, tidy up, watch a TV series, cook meals, or head out for a walk. I dont sit around searching for something I feel is missing or crave validation from elsewhere. I wouldnt claim my marriage is perfect, because its not. We argue, we disagree, we get tired. But theres something fundamental that always stands: my honesty.
I dont live in a constant state of suspicion either. I trust my husband. I know the sort of man he is, I know his habits, his character, his way of thinking. I dont check his phone or conjure up far-fetched stories in my head. That sense of security matters, too. When youre not looking for a way out, you dont need to have escape routes open at all times.
So, when I come across stories about cheatingwithout judgment, just a sense of puzzlementI remind myself that its usually not simply about temptation, looks, extra time, or attention from others. In my case, its never been up for consideration. Not because I cant, but because I just dont want to be that sort of person. And honestly, Im at peace with that.
Whats your perspective on this?
