There was a man who raised his daughter all by himself. His only hope was that she would grow up to be a truly good person. He spared no effort or expense, working tirelessly to give his daughter everything she needed. Life was not easy for the girl, for she had lost her mother so very early.
The girl suffered because of the way she had to grow up. Other children teased her, making her cry and worry about what the future might hold. The man always tried to comfort his daughter, telling her that life moves in mysterious and unpredictable ways. He loved her with all his heart, and in those difficult moments, his devotion shone with a special warmth.
Her favourite celebration was always New Years Eve. She awaited it eagerly, dreaming that all her wishes would come true. Their school would always give presents to mark the occasion, and the children dressed up in splendid costumes and charming masquerade dresses. Money was always tight for the man, but even so, he always tried to make his daughter look her best on that day. Once, he even bought her a dress so lovely that she became the star of the eveningher classmates showered her with admiration for her outfit. The girl was over the moon, thanking her father again and again.
The daughter grew older. After finishing secondary school, she left for London to attend university. Everything went just as she had planned, for she was always clever and quick-witted. Life in the city changed her profoundly. She developed a taste for money and became rather calculating. She started seeing gentlemen who lavished her with expensive gifts and took her to fine restaurants.
When the girl found she was expecting a child, she prepared for marriage. She felt truly happy, as her chosen suitor was wealthy. Yet she did not once consider inviting her father or other relatives to the ceremony. Instead, she sent her father a note, requesting politely that he not attend. She explained that the wedding would bring together people of wealth and means, and he did not belong among them.
The man was deeply hurt by her decision. For years, he had poured his heart and every penny he had into his daughter, always supporting her and standing by her side. Did he truly deserve such treatment? After pondering it, the man decided he would make the journey to the city.
When it came time for the guests to offer their congratulations, the father stepped up to his daughter. He handed her a small bouquet of flowers, kissed her on the cheek, and wished her happiness and good fortune, before turning and leaving quietly. The girl stood motionless, overcome with shame and regret for her unkindness. How could she have treated her dearest and closest family in such a way?
She ran after her father. Tears streamed down her face as she begged his forgiveness, promising never again to behave so cruelly.
