It turns out that I never got married and I dont have any children. My life has taken quite an unusual path. I am now fifty-seven. I’ve just celebrated my birthday. It was only me and my mumnobody else to invite. I don’t have any friends, and mum and I have no other family members.
We live together and always support each other. My mum is eighty-six. I honestly dont know what Ill do when shes no longer with me. Still, shes in good spirits! Even though shes getting older every year and her health isnt what it used to be, she keeps going. She still goes out for walks on her own.
I am retired, but I continue to work because our pensions dont stretch far enough for a comfortable life. I try not to let it get me down and Im grateful every day to have my dear mother with me. After all, plenty of people are much worse off. Some dont even have a flat to live in, no family, nor any money.
Mum and I live quietly and peacefully together. In the evenings, we have tea, knit, and watch our favourite films and TV shows. At weekends, I bake cakes and invite our neighbours round. They share stories about their families. I find joy in hearing about other peoples happiness, and I pray that mum and I get spared from any big troubles.
This is how we live day to day. I hope this life lasts as long as possible for me and mum.
