Let’s call me Emily. I woke up at seven in the morning, as usual, ready to start my day. Outside, the world was still quiet, so I decided to begin with a cup of tea. Next to it was an empty bottle of what looked like expensive wine, judging by the label, and a wrapper from a posh cheese. I paused, and something inside me twinged. I live alone, but our building is friendly, and I get on well with my neighbours—especially the couple upstairs, let’s call them James and Charlotte. Besides, that evening tea at Charlotte’s turned out lovely—we laughed, swapped stories, and even planned a summer picnic.
