Mum, Your Son Is a Grown Man! Why I Finally Stood Up to My Mother-in-Law’s Meddling—From Underwear…

Mum, your son is a grown man!

Thats exactly what I said to my mother-in-law, because for the umpteenth time, she asked her son, my husband, what sort of underwear he was wearing. Just to add, he turned thirty last week. She tries to keep tabs on his every move, and she seems to think Im not worth much at all.

Honestly, Im amazed at how much control she has over his life, but Ive had enough. Its got to the point where my husband would hand in his notice if his mother disapproved of his job. Whenever hes between jobs, she slips him some money. Shes a well-off sort, but I dont want to live off someone elses generosity when my husband is perfectly healthy and capable.

One day, we were getting ready for a wedding. My husband bought himself a new suit at a decent price. His mother absolutely lost it when she saw it it wasnt a luxury brand. She handed him some cash and told him to go and buy another, more expensive suit.

Recently, she gave us a flat, but of course, its in her name. It doesnt really bother me, but shes insisting on decorating it entirely to her own tastes. How can I feel at home if I cant even choose my own toilet seat?

Part of me thinks we should be grateful to her. On the other hand, its as if shes doing all this just to rub it in that shes in charge. She does everything for her son. And, to be honest, it suits him he wont say a word against her.

A few weeks back, my own mum came to visit. She lives out in the countryside, so shed planned to stay with us. As soon as my husband saw her, he said, Lets give Mum a cup of tea, then get her a taxi to Aunties.

Turns out, his mother had told him to keep my mum away from me apparently she thinks my mum could be a bad influence. My mum does have relatives in town, but she came to see me, so obviously she should stay with me.

You know what I did? I packed a bag and left with my mum. I have no regrets, because I finally stopped letting someone walk all over me.

Never marry a mummys boy itll only lead to trouble!
