My Boss Was the One Who Told Me My Husband Was Cheating on Me: How I Discovered the Truth at Work, E…

Its my manager who tells me that my husband is cheating on me.

Im married and working in a small business in Manchester. My boss, Mr. Edwards, is a single man whos been separated for a while, and hes made it obvious that he fancies me. Ive never been rude to him, but hes always a bit too persistent. Ive drawn the line several times, telling him to stop because I have a partner, and that its starting to get awkward around the office. Hes said he understands, and weve just carried on working as usual.

One afternoon, he calls me into his office and shuts the door carefully. He says he needs to discuss something a bit personal. He asks if my husband, Charles, is still away most weekends. I nod and say yes. Then he comes right out with it:
I saw him with another woman.

He explains that his assistant manager went out with friends to a pub, and later Mr. Edwards joined them there. Thats when they saw Charles. He was kissing another woman. I tell him I dont believe it. Then, he pulls out his phone and shows me a video.

The video is grainy and the place is dimly lit, with loud music blaring in the background, shot from across the pub. Still, I recognise Charles the way he moves, his silhouette, the jacket he always wears. Theres no mistaking it. Im suddenly overwhelmed by a messy mixture of anger, shame, and absolute helplessness. I leave the office and head straight home. That evening, I confront Charles. He denies it at first, then says it was just a stupid mistake. But he doesnt move out.

The following six months are a living nightmare. I no longer want to be with him, but he refuses to leave. As the flats a rented one, he insists hes got every right to be there. He starts making my life utterly miserable blasting loud music in the mornings, inviting people over without telling me, leaving everything in a state, making snide remarks, winding me up. Every argument escalates further. I start sleeping badly, anxiety constantly gnawing at me.

One day, I read through our rental agreement and see that the contracts nearly up. It suddenly hits me: this isnt really my home. I dont have to put up with any of this. I start hunting for a place on my own. I pack up, sign a new tenancy, and move out. Theres no tearful goodbye. I just take the essentials and walk away, closing that chapter.

Throughout all of this, Mr. Edwards is there watching, quietly supportive. At first, its just checking how I am, if I need anything. We start talking more outside work texts at first, then coffee now and again. I dont want anything; I just need some peace. He understands. Months pass before we become anything more than friends.

Eventually, I land a new job, not because of him, but because the offer is better the role, the pay, the whole package. I hand in my notice. Thats when things between us shift. Hes no longer my boss. Were just two people getting to know each other.

Now, as of today, weve been together for a year.

My ex-husband is out of my life. Ive lost a marriage, but gained my peace and a good man to share it with.
