My Father-in-Law Thought We’d Keep Supporting Him Forever: After 11 Years Living with Us, He Refused…

My father-in-law thought we would always be there to support him.

My husband grew up in a warm, loving family. But when his father was 57, tragedy struck, and his wifemy husbands motherpassed away. Of course, it was incredibly hard for him to bear such a loss. So we decided to sell his flat, split the money, and have my father-in-law move in with us until, somehow, he could get through his grief. It seemed the right thing to doa true family matter.

We assumed hed be with us for maybe six months or so, and then find his own place. But things didnt go that way. He absolutely relished living with us. He didnt contribute a penny towards bills or groceries. I did all his cooking, his laundry, kept his room tidy. All he did was go to work. His life became one long holiday.

That carried on for eleven years. Then, slowly, he began giving us lectures about how things should be done, lay down his own house rules. In the end, wed just had enough. We decided to buy him a little house just outside of town. Hes still healthystill in good spirits and more than able to manage on his own.

We bought him the house and sorted everything out so hed be comfortable living there. But my father-in-law soon started coming up with complaints about heart pains and various other ailments. If Im honest, he fabricates excuses simply to stay with us. But I just cant do it anymore. I want a bit of peace and some time with my immediate family. I’m exhausted. What am I supposed to do?
